The story

The finch had heard rumors of seeds but never learned what they looked like, only that they were important and possibly hidden. It had waited three days by the jar, convinced the label was a test. When the wind finally blew the lid off, it stared at the contents, blinked slowly, and pecked once at a sunflower seed before deciding it was probably a rock and going back to sleep.

The brief

A small, dull-feathered finch perches motionless on a wooden windowsill in a dim attic, one eye half-closed, the other fixed on a dusty jar labeled 'Seeds (Do Not Open)' in faded ink, morning light slanting through a cracked pane to illuminate floating motes and the bird’s confused tilt.

The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
