The Under New Management Wagtail
Random inspiration: under new management wagtail
AI-generated painting and story
The story
The wagtail had been hired last Tuesday to oversee morale in the abandoned call center, though no one had told it what that meant. It arrived with a tiny badge and a sense of duty it could not explain. Now, each morning, it stands exactly where the night shift supervisor used to sip cold coffee, waiting for instructions that never come. The sign above it was put up by a temp who quit before lunch. The bird does not know it is symbolic. It only knows the light buzzes, the floor is cold, and it must not move until told.
The brief
A single wagtail stands on a cracked linoleum floor beneath a flickering fluorescent light, one foot raised mid-step, its feathers slightly ruffled as if caught in a draft from an unseen vent, the walls painted in faded institutional beige with a half-peeled 'Under New Management' sign hanging crookedly above it.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
