The Under New Management Manakin
Random inspiration: under new management manakin

The story
The manakin had been hired on a Tuesday, though no one remembered interviewing it. It stood where the receptionist used to be, waving at empty hallways as if expecting applause. By Friday, the sticky note had curled at the edges, and the blazer smelled faintly of lavender and regret. No one complained. No one thanked it. It just kept waving, waiting for someone to notice it wasn’t supposed to be there — or that it was, and that was the point.
The brief
A small wooden mannequin in a faded blue blazer stands rigidly on a linoleum floor beneath a flickering fluorescent light, its left hand raised in a half-hearted wave, a sticky note reading 'UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT' peeling from its chest, the walls around it bare except for a single cracked mirror reflecting nothing but static.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
