The Under New Management Apostlebird
Random inspiration: under new management apostlebird

The story
The bird had been promoted yesterday. No one explained why. It now signed forms with a claw, nodded at memes it didn’t understand, and occasionally pecked at the ‘Employee of the Month’ plaque — which, inexplicably, bore its own face. The fern died on Tuesday. No one noticed.
The brief
An apostlebird stands stiffly on a wooden desk under flickering fluorescent light, wearing a tiny ill-fitting suit and holding a clipboard, surrounded by half-empty coffee cups and a wilting fern in a corner office with beige walls.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
