The Unbearably Tasteful Cormorant
Random inspiration: unbearably tasteful cormorant

The story
The cormorant had been voted 'Most Tasteful' by the Avian Aesthetics Council three years running, a title it accepted with the quiet dignity of a bird who had long since stopped trying to explain why it preferred raw fish served on chilled porcelain. Today, it waited not for admiration, but for the janitor to finish mopping — because even tastefulness has its limits when the floor is still wet.
The brief
A single cormorant stands perfectly still on a marble pedestal in a sunlit, minimalist gallery, its glossy black feathers catching the soft morning light from a high window, surrounded by white walls and a faint shadow stretching behind it like a silent comma.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
