The Semi-liquid Turnstone
Random inspiration: semi-liquid turnstone

The story
The turnstone had been left behind after the last tide receded, not by accident but by design—its keeper had forgotten to re-solidify it before departure. Now it creeps toward the door, not in escape, but in quiet obedience to a schedule it no longer remembers. The bulb hums. The floor does not judge.
The brief
A semi-liquid turnstone oozes slowly across a sun-bleached wooden floor, its mottled brown and grey form pooling slightly at the edges, casting a faint shadow under a single bare bulb that casts a harsh, even light over empty white walls.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
