The story

Harold fed the mule a glass of warm milk at precisely four o'clock. By four-thirty, the animal had begun to lose its structural integrity. It did not seem to mind. It simply leaned against the table and waited for the floor to absorb its lower half. Harold watched it drip onto the plate, noting the viscosity with a clipboard. He refilled the glass. The mule blinked once and sank another inch.

The brief

A semi-liquid mule slumps against a kitchen table, its legs pooling into the linoleum while its head remains upright. Grey afternoon light falls across the beige walls and white tiles. The mule is a dull brown, dripping slowly onto a blue plate.

The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
