The Seasonally Adjusted Sunfish
Random inspiration: seasonally adjusted sunfish
AI-generated painting and story
The story
The sunfish had been adjusted for winter, though no one could agree what that meant. It did not eat, nor did it protest when the intern tapped the glass to check if it was still there. The logbook noted: 'Buoyancy nominal. Mood: indifferent.' Outside, the seasons changed. Inside, the sunfish waited for the next recalibration, its silence taken as compliance.
The brief
A single sunfish floats motionless in a featureless white tank under flat fluorescent light, its mottled grey body slightly tilted, one fin twitching as if correcting for seasonal drift, the water perfectly still and slightly too blue.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
