The Recently Retconned Nuthatch
Random inspiration: recently retconned nuthatch
AI-generated painting and story
The story
The nuthatch had always known it was a nuthatch, until yesterday, when the archives were quietly updated and it was informed, via a misplaced memo, that it had never existed in the first place. It now sits on the shelf, waiting for the next edit, wondering if it should flap its wings or simply accept that its breakfast was also retroactively canceled. The light does not flicker. The room does not notice.
The brief
A small nuthatch with slightly mismatched feathers perches rigidly on a plain wooden shelf in a featureless beige room, under flat fluorescent light, its head tilted as if listening to a silence that recently changed its mind.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
