The story
The budgerigar had been told it was special, but after years of waiting for signs, it concluded that being radiantly average was its true calling. It now spends its days perched in the quiet room, neither seeking nor avoiding attention, simply existing in the soft, unchanging light. Visitors sometimes pause, expecting something extraordinary, but leave quietly, unsure if they saw anything at all.
The brief
A single budgerigar with soft green and yellow feathers sits motionless on a plain wooden perch in a featureless off-white room, lit by flat, even daylight from an unseen source, its expression neutral and its posture perfectly unremarkable.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
