The story

The wasp had been told, in a dream delivered by a moth who claimed to have once been a prophet, that it was the Chosen One—but only on Tuesdays, and only between 3:14 and 3:17 p.m. It had arrived precisely at 3:14, raised its leg to deliver the sermon, and then realized it had forgotten what the sermon was. The light did not change. The room did not acknowledge it. It waited. At 3:17, it lowered its leg and flew out the window, which had not been there a moment before.

The brief

A single wasp hovers motionless in the center of a featureless beige room, one foreleg raised as if mid-sentence, its wings catching the flat and translucent under a flat, shadowless light, the walls and floor uniformly pale ochre with no discernible texture or detail.

The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
