The story

The kudu had been told, in a dream whispered by a malfunctioning vending machine, that salvation came not through sermons but through the correct folding of cotton blends. It had quit its full-time prophecy after three congregants mistook its bleats for interpretive dance. Now, it worked Tuesdays and Thursdays, arriving before dawn to press the uniforms of night-shift janitors who never noticed it was holy. It did not mind. The socks, it had learned, were the true sacrament.

The brief

A lone kudu stands upright on a cracked linoleum floor beneath a flickering fluorescent light in an abandoned 1970s laundromat, its spiral horns slightly tilted as if listening, one hoof resting on a half-folded sock, steam curling from a broken dryer in the background, muted greys and faded teal dominating the scene.

The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
