The Moderately Infinite Hartebeest

The story
The hartebeest had been standing like this for as long as anyone could remember—though no one had ever been there to remember. It did not grow tired, nor did it wonder why the wall behind it never came closer, nor why the floor never ended. It simply was: moderately infinite, moderately still. Occasionally, a dust mote drifted past its ear. It did not blink.
The brief
A lone hartebeest stands motionless in a featureless white room, its body stretching infinitely in one direction while remaining finite in the other, under flat, even light that casts no shadows, its coat a dull beige against the seamless void.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
