The story

Harold found the fish in his kitchen one Tuesday morning. It did not swim, nor did it fall. It simply hovered, occupying a moderate amount of infinite space. He tried to feed it flakes, but they bounced off its side. He tried to move it, but it remained fixed in the center of the room. Eventually, he sat in a chair opposite it and waited. They regarded one another in silence. The light remained grey. The fish remained moderately infinite. Harold decided this was fine and poured himself a cup of tea.

The brief

A single orange guppy hovers in the center of a beige room, suspended in air without water. The fish is moderately infinite, extending slightly beyond the frame on both sides. Grey light falls from a bare ceiling bulb onto a white linoleum floor.

The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
