The story
The bird waited for the paperwork to arrive. It had spent three years applying for a permit to exist in the beige room. The inspector was late, and the light was fading. The bird remained perfectly still on the wooden chair, afraid that moving might invalidate the application. It watched the empty walls and wondered if the permit required a specific shade of beige. Eventually, it decided to nap until the paperwork found it.
The brief
A small bird with orange and black head markings sits on a plain wooden chair in a beige room. Grey light enters from a single window. The walls are white and empty.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
