The Gratuitously Thorough Needlefish
Random inspiration: gratuitously thorough needlefish
AI-generated painting and story
The story
The aquarium janitor, having mistaken the needlefish for a misplaced suture, spent three hours verifying its length against every measuring tool in the supply closet. He documented the findings in triplicate, filed them under 'Marine Anomalies,' and then went home to re-measure his own spine. The fish, unaware, continued its slow drift, perfectly aligned, utterly gratuitous.
The brief
A needlefish floats horizontally near the surface of a dimly lit aquarium tank, its elongated body meticulously aligned with a ruler taped to the glass, surrounded by floating debris and a single flickering fluorescent light casting a sickly green hue over the water and ceramic tiles below.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
