The Contentiously Cosy Elk

The story
Gregory found the cardigan in the back of the closet and decided it was time to stop fighting the autumn chill. He brewed a weak tea and sat in the armchair, though he remained deeply suspicious of the concept of comfort. He stared at the crossword, refusing to fill in the answers, convinced that relaxation was a conspiracy. The tea grew lukewarm as he maintained a vigilant, contentious posture, determined to be cozy only on his own terms while the rain tapped quietly against the windowpane.
The brief
An elk sits upright in a beige armchair, wearing a small knitted cardigan. A steaming mug rests on the side table beside him. Soft grey light filters through a lace curtain, casting pale shadows over the floral wallpaper and a half-finished crossword puzzle on his lap.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
