The Bewildered Needlefish
Random inspiration: bewildered needlefish
AI-generated painting and story
The story
Harold did not know how he arrived in the parlor, nor why he was breathing air. He hovered three feet above a worn rug, his snout pointed at a vase of wilting carnations. He had spent his entire life in open water, but now he was trapped in a domestic silence that smelled of floor wax. He waited for someone to explain the situation, but no one entered the room. Harold remained perfectly still, wondering if he had forgotten how to swim or if the room had simply forgotten how to be ocean.
The brief
A long, thin needlefish floats motionless in the center of a small, dimly lit room with pale blue walls. The fish, painted in muted silver and grey tones, stares directly forward with a wide-eyed, bewildered expression under a single bare bulb that casts a harsh yellow glow.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
