The Astronomically Mundane Eland
Random inspiration: astronomically mundane eland
AI-generated painting and story
The story
The eland had been told the observatory was upstairs, but after three wrong turns and a vending machine that only dispensed existential pamphlets, it settled here. It waited for the astronomer, who never came. The light hummed. The eland blinked. Somewhere, a telescope collected dust.
The brief
An eland stands motionless in a featureless white room under flat fluorescent light, its brown coat slightly dusty, one hoof lifted as if mid-step, facing a blank wall with no horizon or sky visible.
The painting and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment.
