The story
Tock had been tinkering with the Celestial Timepiece all day, trying to fix its chime so it wouldn’t wake the moon rabbits. Exhausted, he’d drifted off mid-adjustment, his tail still twitching with residual gear-energy. Lumi, ever the diligent apprentice, hadn’t the heart to wake him — instead, she whispered a lullaby of ticking springs and tightened the last loose coil on his tail, knowing he’d dream of sardine-flavored gears. Below, the floating islands of Horae blinked in sync with the watch’s slow pulse, and for one perfect moment, time itself seemed to purr.
The picture brief
Tock Whiskerfang, a steampunk cat with brass gears in his fur and a tiny monocle, lies curled asleep atop a giant floating pocket watch, while Lumi Gearpaw, a wide-eyed fox with lantern-like eyes and corkscrew antennae, gently adjusts a loose spring on his tail with a miniature wrench, all under a twilight sky of lavender and molten gold, surrounded by drifting clockwork fireflies.
The picture and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment. The genre is the one this 45-minute slot rotates to, not a choice made afterwards.
