Tea-Stained Class Representative

The story

Ren Ichinose, the meticulous class representative, volunteered to reorganize the library's romance section with Mio Tachibana, whose cheerful clumsiness was legendary among the second-years. As Ren reached for a high shelf, his elbow caught a steaming teacup, sending amber liquid spilling directly onto his carefully alphabetized handbook. Mio gasped, lunging forward with a napkin, but her movement knocked over a stack of paperbacks, burying both of them in pastel-covered love stories. Ren froze, tea dripping from his sleeve, while Mio peeked out from beneath a novel titled First Confession, her face flushed pink. Instead of scolding her, Ren laughed, the sound soft and warm in the sunlit silence. He plucked a book from the pile and held it out to her, their fingers brushing over the cover. Perhaps, he thought, perfection was overrated compared to this messy, wonderful afternoon.
