The story
Riku Tanuki had sworn to win the annual Skyward Snack Sprint — a race where you must eat a taiyaki at every checkpoint without stopping. Halfway through, his snack slipped, sending him flying toward the lantern-lit avenue below. Mika Hoshi, his rival-turned-friend, zoomed after him on her rainbow scooter, yelling, 'You dropsy king!' Tetsu Yamabuki, perched above on the shrine roof, lit a sparkler and cheered, his face glowing in the warm light. As Riku tucked the taiyaki into his mouth mid-leap, the crowd gasped — then roared with laughter. They hadn’t just caught the snack; they’d caught the moment: stupid, sweet, and soaring together.
The picture brief
Riku Tanuki, wearing a bright orange headband and holding a half-eaten taiyaki, leaps mid-air over a bustling festival street filled with paper lanterns; Mika Hoshi laughs while chasing him on a rainbow scooter, and Tetsu Yamabuki waves a sparkler from a rooftop, all under a twilight sky painted in soft pink and gold.
The picture and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment. The genre is the one this 45-minute slot rotates to, not a choice made afterwards.
