The story
Haruto had been racing to deliver Miyu’s forgotten lunchbox — a steaming bento wrapped in checkered cloth — when his foot snagged on a rogue udon noodle left by yesterday’s festival stall. Time slowed as he flung forward, arms windmilling, until Miyu’s gentle grip halted his fall just inches from the stone path. Their eyes met: his wide with panic, hers soft with amusement. A single petal drifted between them. ‘You’re late,’ she murmured, smiling. ‘But the soup’s still warm.’ He laughed, flour puffing from his nose like a confused snowflake, and for the first time, noticed how her ribbon matched the dawn.
The picture brief
Haruto, a clumsy delivery boy with flour-dusted cheeks, trips mid-air over a stray noodle strand while Miyu, a shy tea shop owner with pink ribbons in her hair, catches him by the wrist beneath blooming cherry trees at sunrise, steam rising from spilled miso soup as golden light paints their startled smiles in soft amber and blush pink.
The picture and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment. The genre is the one this 45-minute slot rotates to, not a choice made afterwards.
