The story
Kaito and Miyu had spent years training to awaken the Guardian Foxes of Mount Inari, but tonight, for the first time, the stone stirrings answered. As their palms pressed the statue, ancient warmth spread through their fingers, and the fox’s eyes opened — not with menace, but with a sleepy, knowing blink. Elder Tsubaki smiled, her wrinkles deepening like old bark. ‘They remember you,’ she whispered. The forest held its breath. Then, softly, the fox let out a sound like wind through chimes — not a roar, but a promise. Somewhere in the roots below, other stones began to hum.
The picture brief
Under a silver full moon, two young shrine guardians kneel beside a moss-covered stone fox statue in an ancient cedar forest, their hands resting on its cool surface as glowing blue runes pulse along its fur, while the elder watches from a shadowed torii gate, lantern light catching the mist that curls around their bare feet.
The picture and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment. The genre is the one this 45-minute slot rotates to, not a choice made afterwards.
