The story
Haruka had spent three days folding origami cranes into the corners of Ren’s favorite poetry book, hoping he’d notice. Today, she finally worked up the courage to hand him a bookmark stitched with tiny stars — ‘For when you get lost in verses,’ it read. Ren blinked, then laughed softly, his cheeks pink. ‘You remembered I like Neruda?’ he asked. She nodded, eyes down. He gently placed the bookmark in his current read, then tucked a single cranberry candy into her palm. ‘For bravery,’ he whispered. Outside, cherry blossoms began to fall.
The picture brief
Haruka Sato, a shy girl with teal hair and round glasses, nervously offers a handmade bookmark to Ren Takahashi, a tall boy with messy amber hair and a soft smile, as they stand between tall wooden shelves in a sunlit school library, golden afternoon light filtering through tall windows, casting warm honey-colored glows on dust motes and scattered open books.
The picture and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment. The genre is the one this 45-minute slot rotates to, not a choice made afterwards.
