The story
Hana had practiced her confession all week — today, she’d give Ren her homemade bento and say ‘I like you.’ But as she opened the lid, her tamago roll slipped, flying toward the stone path. Ren, who’d been pretending to tie his shoe nearby, sprang up and snatched it just before it landed, his fingers brushing hers. They froze, bento suspended between them, cherry blossoms swirling like confetti. ‘I… I made too much,’ Hana mumbled, eyes down. Ren smiled, handing it back. ‘Then I guess I’ll have to help you eat it.’ Laughter bubbled up as petals settled on their shoulders — the perfect, messy start to something sweet.
The picture brief
Hana Tsukishiro, a shy second-year with pink-tipped bangs, fumbles a half-eaten tamago roll from her open bento box as Ren Matsuda, tall and glasses-askew, lunges to catch it mid-air beneath the cherry blossoms of Seiran Academy’s east courtyard, petals drifting in soft spring light, their cheeks flushed under a pastel sky of peach and lavender.
The picture and the story were written from this same scene, so the two describe one moment. The genre is the one this 45-minute slot rotates to, not a choice made afterwards.
